Dear Colleagues,

After four successful Drama Network Conferences (2004 in Morovany, SK; 2005 in Šlapanice, CZ; 2006 IATEFL INTERACT Vienna, A, and 2007 in Szombathely, H), we are delighted to invite you to join us at the INTERACT CENTROPE 2009 Conference “Integrating Drama in English Language Teaching” in Košice, Slovakia, and offer you the chance to meet friends, colleagues and experts from Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, England, Ireland and abroad.

The conference is organised by the Austrian Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture, the Pedagogical University Vienna (OStR. Mag. Anton Prochazka) , in co-operation with Gymnázium Tomáša Akvinského (Mag. Agnesa Kovalčikova,), Methodological and Pedagogical Regional Centre in Košice and the Drama Networks in Central Europe.

To make sure that a large number of teachers, trainers and experts can attend this event, the conference will take place from Thursday, 5 November, 5.00 p.m. till Sunday noon, 8 November 2009 at the Gymnázium s.Tomáša Akvinského, Zbrojnicna 3, 04001 Košice, Slovakia.

Drama as a teaching method is not so widely known in Europe. It is both a creative and holistic form of learning which not only motivates students and helps to speed up their learning process, but can also improve their relationship within their class and create a positive learning environment.

This conference is a great opportunity bringing teachers and trainers from various countries together, enabling them to make new professional (and personal) contacts and motivating them to network and work out joint projects.

One afternoon there will be a guided tour of Košice and in the evening you will see a special performance of Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest” by a drama club. One evening will be devoted to storytelling and one to Irish Dancing. Experts from various countries will run workshops.

Speakers: David Heathfield (UK, Author of “Spontaneous Speaking“), Patrick Dowman (UK), David Edwards (UK), David Fisher (UK/CZ), Lenka Fisherova (CZ), Anita Debska (PL), Michael O Sheagh (Ireland), Michaela Čaňková (CZ), Agnesa Kovalčikova (SK), Iveta Raskovicova (SK), Marta Torda (H), Elisabeth Mayer (A), Michael Manhart (A).

We would like to invite experts, teacher trainers, teachers and interested colleagues, in particular the ones teaching ages 10-19, to join us in this special drama in ELT event and meet friends and colleagues from Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and abroad.
